A&E Flying Club is a non-profit club that provides members with the ability to fly, maintain, and enjoy club aircraft. The club owns four aircraft and has fifty active members. The members are part owners of the aircraft and help perform the maintenance allowed by the FAA for privately owned aircraft. The aircraft are available for scheduling at Schedulemaster.
Club membership involves a monthly membership fee and participation in one 8-hour day of aircraft maintenance every month. One of the ways we keep our costs down is by having our members actively participate in aircraft maintenance. Our monthly maintenance day is scheduled on the third Saturday of each month, rain or shine. Club members perform all of the aircraft maintenance that the FAA permits to be performed by an aircraft owner/operator. This volunteer labor translates into clean, well-maintained aircraft, low operating costs, and a safer, more knowledgeable pilot.
A&E Flying Club is a non-profit, all-volunteer, member-operated organization that offers memberships to licensed pilots and student pilots who are residents of the Los Angeles area. If you think you have an interest in joining, please request an application from our Membership Coordinator (membership@aandeflyingclub.org) and bring it with you to a club maintenance day. Attendance at a club maintenance day is required to make one eligible to become an active member.
The Club requires all potential members to attend one full maintenance day before their membership application can be processed. Attendance offers potential members an opportunity to determine for themselves that aircraft maintenance is something that they are willing and able to do and that the club offers the kind of social setting with which they feel comfortable. You are welcome to attend any of our regularly scheduled maintenance days to participate in maintenance and observe the general membership meeting that takes place at lunchtime. The club serves lunch and conducts its monthly business during the break. The general membership must approve the application for you to become a member.
Our rates (wet rates) are based on a fixed hourly base cost for each aircraft plus monthly adjusted fuel prices. Current rates can be found on Schedule Master (my.schedulemaster.com) (login required), but are approximate:
Cessna 172 | $99 – $109 |
Cessna 182 | $129 |
Cessna 182RG | $129 |
Below is the estimated initial cost to join the club. The cost varies slightly based on the fuel price, as that is part of the rental rate calculation.
Initial Cost to Join: | |
Initial Membership Fee (non-refundable) | $200 |
Fractional Ownership Buy-In (refundable) | $1,800 |
First Month’s Dues | $109 |

How do I get involved?
You must first join the club, pay your active membership equity investment fee, dues, and other fees, and become an active “member in good standing.” You will then have access to the club aircraft, and you may schedule them for recreational or training flights as you wish. You may train at A & E for any certificate or rating from Private Pilot through ATP.
If there is a waiting list when you first apply, you will first become a member in waiting.
-
To go onto the waiting list, a prospective member must first::
-
Attend and participate in at least one full maintenance day,
-
Complete and submit the club’s application form,
-
Submit a check (or fund your ScheduleMaster account if going active immediately) for the full amount required for new members.
-
Be approved by vote of the club membership.
-
-
Applicants who meet the above requirements will be added to the waiting list.
-
Applicants will move up the waiting list as openings become available on the Active Member list, and people ahead of them move into Active slots.
-
A Current Member who has been on Inactive flying status and wishes to become active again will precede applicants in waiting list positions as openings become available. A three-week prior notice is required for Inactive flight status members to move to the head of the list.
-
No priority is given to licensed pilots or students on the waiting list.
-
Prospective members, who are non-citizens, must obtain the proper registration paperwork from TSA before becoming an Active Member. Paperwork is obtained from your chosen Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) as specified by TSA.
- The new member application form can be downloaded.
